Castor Wheels

Often used in shopping carts, casters are undriven wheels attached to the bottom of a larger object. They are used in many applications, including office chairs, hospital beds and toy wagons. They are also used in many heavy-duty vehicles, including platform trucks, tow lines in plants, and material handling equipment.

Castors are available in a variety of designs, including rigid, swivel and caster wheels. They come in a variety of diameters, from 25 to 1,000 millimetres. Their load rating is determined by the weight of the load borne by each caster, which adds to the overall capacity of the wheel. The load rating can vary between two and 50 tonnes.

Castors are typically manufactured using gray iron castings. A wheel material chart will indicate the performance of each wheel on different floor materials. For instance, a glass filled nylon wheel can operate in an extremely cold environment (+45 deg F) and in a greasy or oily environment (up to 550 deg F). Link :

Castors may be fixed to roll along a straight path, or may align themselves to the direction of travel. Castors are also available with adjustable pivot points, such as strut rods. These allow most drivers to adjust the caster angle, which is the angle between the upper and lower ball joints.

Some types of casters use a directional lock, which prevents the wheel from swiveling. These wheels are also available in a variety of materials, including rubber, polyurethane, and synthetic materials.
